Pens Lose Two Straight
The Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the Philladelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning in consecutive games this week. In what were the two biggest games of the year the penguins failed to generate and points. By losing to the Flyers on Tuesday by a final score of 5-2 the Penguins fell to four points behind their cross state rival for the division lead and first overall in the Eastern Conference. Their next opponent, Tampa Bay Lightning, won that night and cut their deficit behind the Penguins to only 5 points. Making their match up on Thursday a very important on for both teams. The Lightning beat the Penguins by a final score of 2-1 and cut the Penguins lead of 4th place to only 3 points. The Penguins have 4 games remaining and need ever point possible to finish with home ice advantage for at least the first round.

I wouldn't worry about it. Disco won't let the Pens fall out of home ice position. The first round, however, may be a disaster for the Pens as the Lightning are sure to start off hot with St. Louis and Stammer. The Penguins will need to change their game a bit to succeed or they are looking at an early exit from this years playoffs. Also, a strong showing by Fleury, or a well timed return by Crosby could keep the Pens in it, at least until the second round.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud that the Flyers beat the Pens for the reason that they are my team from home! Guess we will have to wait and see how the rest of the season pans out!
ReplyDeleteI think these loses should have some cause for concern. The Pens are having a good year but how long can they go in the playoffs realistically with the best player in the world on the bench?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Steve.. the injuries have been a problem for the Pens and with their leader not on the ice, how far can they realistically make it in the playoffs?
ReplyDeleteI still think they can go decently far. For the cup? That's a stretch, but can still happen you never know. Plus with no one really knowing Crosby's status, I really can't make any calls on how far they can go just yet.
